We took the kids to see and hike Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Antelope Canyons, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Monterey Bay. Then we attended a 25 year reunion of Mako's Christian fellowship friends in Monterey.

Antelope Canyon - both Lower and Upper - are on Navajo land in northern Arizona. Although, journalist Rebecca Jennings writes a thoughtful article about the downsides and dangers to the Navajo now that Antelope Canyon has become so popular.

 

 

 

You walk down stairs about 30 - 40 feet to enter a slot canyon carved by rushing floodwaters which have nowhere else to go when the rains are heavy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Often, one sees shapes in the rock. Our Navajo guide pointed out that this is called "the eagle."

Then we drove a few hours to the Grand Canyon, in time for late afternoon and then sunset, and then star-gazing.
