The Nagasawa Family Photos

August 2021

From August 9 - 13, we went to Cobscook Shores and Acadia National Park, though John stayed home with his grandpa. We were hoping to see the Perseid meteor shower. We were very grateful to have two fairly clear nights where we did!

Aug 9: Lunch at Bite into Maine at Fort Williams Park

Aug 10: Breakfast in Acadia, Cobscook Shores

Aug 11: Jeannie's Great Maine Breakfast, Bass Harbor, Campground, Dinner at Bar Harbor, stargazing

Aug 12: Sea Kayaking on the Somes Sound, Hiking the Beehive, Sunset at Seal Cove, stargazing

Aug 13: Jordan Pond and Bubble Rock, Cadillac Mountain, Dinner at Duckfat in Portland

For our morning coffee, Ming and I went to that little cafe, Mother's Kitchen. It was next to a pottery and garden supplies store.

We had breakfast at our campsite. Maine Blueberries in yogurt, strawberries, and a hot dog with brioche bun toasted over the campfire.

Here's a shot of our campground.

On the road, the perils of biking with no bike lane, and no shoulder...

Here's a shot from the park bus. The masks are a sign of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We went to Bubble Rock, which was deposited thousands of years ago by a glacier. The boulder is balanced on the edge of a mountain. It is 15 feet tall.

We walked around Jordan Pond to get to Bubble Rock.

Lots of rock slides once upon a time?

Jordan Pond had very clear, beautiful water.

The path up to Bubble Rock was pretty rocky...

...and narrow at times near the top.

But the view was amazing. Here's Jordan Pond from the north, looking south.

You can see the ocean beyond the hills.

Zoe vs. Bubble Rock.

It was a hot day! So sweaty.

One more view to inspire us for the trek down the mountain.

Beavers maybe?

Then we drove to Cadillac Mountain, where you can see most of the island from the top.

The famous Porcupine Islands and Bar Harbor.

Of course, we stopped at Duckfat Restaurant in Portland, Maine, on our way back.

Duckfat Banh Mi: duck confit, pate, pickled vegetables, cilantro, mint

The BGT: bacon, Fern Hill Farm goat cheese, local tomato, sundried tomato spread. Great smoky, tomato flavor.

The Caprese: Stonecipher Farm tomatoes, mozzarella, pistachio pesto, balsamic reduction, arugula

The famous Doughnut Holes: duck fat-fried & citrus scented, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, served with duck fat caramel dipping sauce
