The Nagasawa Family Photos

August 2021

From August 9 - 13, we went to Cobscook Shores and Acadia National Park, though John stayed home with his grandpa. We were hoping to see the Perseid meteor shower. We were very grateful to have two fairly clear nights where we did!

This place, Mother's Kitchen, had great coffee. It was by patch of sunflowers.

After breakfast, we drove 2 hours north to Cobscook Shores. It was right on the border of Maine and Canada. A little while longer and we would have been in Nova Scotia and then Prince Edward Island.

This place had beautiful shoreline scenery. The clouds and fog made it mysterious, elegant, haunting.

We were impressed by how tall and fruitful this apple tree was. One of the two apple trees in our community garden fell over because the soil was too soft and/or shallow. We are sad that we'll have to chop it down when we get home. Just imagine if we had apples as abundantly as this!

Then we went to another spot in the Cobscook Shores area: Black Duck Cove.

Mushrooms were popping up in different places. They were very colorful. Here's a bunch of examples.

The sun started to come out, turning the pale green water a deeper green and blue.

We got to the netted gazebo that protected us from mosquitos as we ate lunch

We were the only people on this beautiful beach!

In the late afternoon, we visited another place in Cobscook Shores: Race Point.

We saw a black loon that drifted with the current, then flew back to where it started.

We saw a total of 3 eagles. This was probably a female bald eagle.

Here's a male bald eagle.

Here's a third bald eagle which was too far away from us, so we couldn't tell its gender.

This is called Reverse Falls. It's a narrow stretch of water that winds up going in different directions based on the tide. We weren't in the best place to see it, but we could hear it from a fairly far distance. The current was moving quickly here.

On the way back, we stopped at a restaurant called Helen's. They had fantastic blueberry pies made from fresh Maine blueberries. We preferred the blueberry cream pie on the right. The blueberries were not cooked, which allowed the natural sweetness of the Maine blueberries to come through - Maine blueberries have more dense flavor and are less tart than larger blueberries - and the cream on top was sweetened just a tiny bit.
