The Nagasawa Family Photos August 2022
Our beloved Laine family (Mako's sister Mari, her husband Richard, and their kids Lucas and Gabrielle) came from France to visit with us from August 4 - 25! Here are some of our adventures.
Camping at Nickerson State Park, whale watching, Provincetown, biking on the Cape Cod Rail Trail
Ogunquit Beach, Duckfat, and Eventide
August 22 - 25: Intervale, NH: Hite's Peak, Diana's Pools, Black Cap Mountain
On Sunday, August 14th, we drove south to Cape Cod. We pitched tents at Nickerson State Park. Just in time to catch a beautiful sunset.
Zoe caught the sunrise the next morning.
We had breakfast at a place that seemed to employ some Croatians working here for the summer. Amazing breakfast.
Then we drove up to Provincetown, where we tried to get on a whale watching boat. But we had to wait until the next day. Instead, we walked around a little bit.
We stopped at the Truro Winery just south of Provincetown, curious about their wine because the climate is very similar to southern France.
Richard said the rose was very good and the red was only so-so. So we got a chilled bottle of rose.
Back at camp, we cooked a few different dishes over the fire. After grilling some onions on the cast iron pans, we put on Chilean sea bass with miso paste, rose wine, and butter.
Look at Mari getting that perfect golden color!!
Uncle Richard taught Lucas the finer points about grilling zucchini and cooking salmon.
The salmon had soy-ginger sauce.
Bread with rosemary, garlic and butter toasted over the fire. Barramundi with butter, wine and capers. Salmon with soy-ginger sauce, plus parsley. Grilled zucchini with olive oil and salt and pepper. Caramelized onions. Chilean sea bass with miso paste, wine, and butter.
We got on a whale watching boat on Tuesday, August 16th. They said we had a 100% chance of seeing whales.
Rounding the lighthouse on the tip of Cape Cod.
We were really fortunate to see 6 humpback whales and 3 fin whales. One of the humpbacks was a calf, and apparently calves like to breach. So we got a treat. This was the closest we've been to breaching whales.
The Boston Globe published a moving article about human-whale interaction, especially our limited understanding of humpback whale song.
We hopped on our bikes and biked down the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Unfortunately, I lost some fun pictures of us biking. But here we are snacking at a restaurant near the Trail.
And back at camp, we had another nice dinner -- simpler this time. Scallops with garlic, lemon, and parsley. Zucchini grilled with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Nice toasty bread. We finished the evening with some raging games of Werewolf!
